We Are Football 2024 – Review
Most people who are involved with football have a childhood dream of being a football player and playing a match amidst the smell of that field and the sound of the stands. As you get older, becoming a coach may also be among your dreams, depending on your interest in football. But of course, since these are extremely burdensome tasks, we find ourselves realizing these dreams through games, as in most areas of life. I’m entering like this because We Are Football and its new game 2024 show that completely different dreams can be possible.
I’ve never had anything to do with city building simulations. I mean, I don’t really understand how a metro line is laid or what the infrastructure services are for. But I can understand the stadium, dear Oyungezers. I look for answers to questions such as how the acoustics should be, how the person at the top should watch the match. When We Are Football was first released, it offered a completely different management game experience. Maybe the players didn’t have a license, but in a universe that runs on pure imagination, this was perhaps the least of the problems.
It’s the year 2024…
When the producer company, Wining Streak Games, announced the new game, I rushed to WAF2024 with the excitement I had from the past… Everything that attracted my attention in the first game was preserved as it was, and even the match engine was improved. However, just as many flaws as the first game had, this one also has the same flaws. In other words, while we have been criticizing the Football Manager series for years as “only the squads are updated”, the squad update does not make sense if we consider that there are unlicensed players here.
What made the first game great was that it gave you the feeling of managing a team. You could design everything yourself, from training facilities to stadiums. Tons of economic details, such as ticket prices and the quality of the hotel in the camp you will visit, were also in your hands. In other words, you were not only the coach, but also the president of the team and sometimes even the equipment man. These were things we had already seen before, and I expected at least some innovations from a game with 2024 in its name. Unfortunately, the innovations added will not fill the walnut shell.
Illegal Floor Left Unfinished
Just like in the first game, you immediately solve a quiz and ask, “Do you understand the economy or the spirit of football, or did you come here to launder money?!” I overcame this chapter and found a job for myself in Gaziantep. Again, I wanted to take the team to the cheapest hotel and invest the budget in the transfer, but this time I hit the artificial intelligence wall. The astronomical transfer expectations of artificial intelligence, which is one of the things I get angry about the most in FM, is also reflected on the football player side in WAF2024. Or the producers did such a thing because of Arab capital. However, I received crazy transfer requests for even the most mediocre players under the age of 25. 30+ veterans also infuriated me by asking for very high salaries.
The match engine was in a really run-of-the-mill state in the first game. Especially when the team increased the tempo and energy, it was quite possible to come back from a score of 4-0 in 15 minutes. This time there is a more established match engine, but it is based on very simple foundations. After about 10-15 matches, you immediately memorize the order of the attacks that will lead to goals and the magic of the task gradually diminishes.
We Are Football, which was made with very modest budgets, should not be seen as an alternative to FM. On its own, it has an atmosphere in the style of the old Premier Manager games. It is also possible to create and publish a database, that is, it may be possible to “mod” and play with real players. However, as I said, I would like to see much more development from a game with 2024 in its name. As it is, I don’t see much reason to abandon the first game of We Are Football and move on to this one.
