Warner Bros Doubles Down On Live-Service Games | Spot On

WB Games has announced it’s doubling down on live-service, mobile, and free-to-play games–but does that strategy play to the company’s strengths?

Earlier this week, Warner Bros Discovery games boss JB Perrette announced that the company is adjusting its business strategy amidst the ‘volatile’ console gaming space. How is it doing that, you ask? By increasing its library of live service, mobile, and free-to-play games.

On this week’s episode of Spot On, Tamoor and Lucy discuss whether this is a good way for Warner Bros to leverage its stable of IPs, which include DC, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and Mortal Kombat, or if it’s making games that no one wants using business models that it has shown very little success with. With huge, IP-driven titles like Wonder Woman and a Harry Potter Quidditch game on the horizon–and the critically-panned Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in the very near past–we have thoughts on how this might all play out.

Spot On is GameSpot’s weekly news show in which managing editor Tamoor Hussain and senior producer Lucy James talk about the latest game news. Given the massive video game industry’s highly dynamic and never-ending news cycle, there’s always something to talk about. Unlike most news shows, Spot On will dive deep into a single topic instead of recapping all the news. Spot On airs each Friday. source gamespot.com
