Take-Two Interactive Acquires Gearbox Entertainment

The Embracer case has been keeping our agenda busy for a while, and it looks like it will continue to keep us busy in the coming period. Today’s news is that one of the studios within Embracer has changed hands.

Take-Two Interactive Software is purchasing Gearbox Interactive Entertainment from Embracer. In the statement, it is stated that this acquisition will be realized for $ 460 Million and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of the 2025 fiscal year.

It was stated in the statement that with this acquisition, 2K’s development team will be strengthened with the important talents of the game industry, and that Gearbox and 2K are actively working on the new game of the Borderlands series.

With this acquisition, Take-Two owns brands such as Homeworld, Risk of Rain, Brothers in Arms and Duke Nukem, as well as the Borderlands series. It is also stated that Gearbox is currently working on 6 projects, 5 of which are sequels and 1 is a new intellectual property. We know 2 of the sequels, one of which is the new Borderlands game mentioned above, and the other is Homeworld 3, which we are counting the days for its release.

Take-Two considers these projects as a starting point and underlines that they plan to undertake many more projects together in the coming period, both as new games for existing brands and as new intellectual properties.

I think it was good news that Geaarbox left Embracer. What do you think, dear Oyungezers?
