Russian President Vladimir Putin Instructed to Produce Consoles
Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly instructed his government to explore developing video game consoles. Putin’s instruction took place earlier this week, as reported by news outlet RT.
Console development from scratch could take 10 years
The instructions given by Vladimir Putin included the following sentences: “The production of both home and portable game consoles should be organized in Russia.” This instruction was given after a recent meeting. It was reported that the deadline for the implementation of the instruction is June 15, 2024.
According to the statement published on the Kremlin’s website, as part of the instruction, the President also emphasized to the Council of Ministers the need to “develop an operating system and Cloud system to quickly deliver games to users.” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained that Putin’s instruction to create a Russian console was aimed at developing Russia’s domestic gaming industry.
As reported by PC Mag, Russian newspaper Kommersant reported that Putin commissioned Russian technology company VK to carry out the plan. On the other hand, it was stated that it could take up to 10 years to create such a system from scratch.
