The science fiction series Dune, written by Frank Herbert, was adapted to the big screen with films by Dennis Villeneuve. The second movie of the series was released at the beginning of the month and blew its entrance. It managed to become one of the best films in years, receiving full marks not only from the tournament but also from the critics.

After such success, a new Dune movie was expected to arrive, but there was no official statement yet. The expected news came last night and Legendary gave the green light for Dune 3.

The name of the third movie may be “Dune: Messiah”

According to the news first announced by Variety, Villeneuve began working with Legendary to develop the third film. It was also announced that the famous filmmaker will shoot a nuclear war-themed film called “Nuclear War: A Scenario” with the same company. It is unclear whether this movie will be before or after Dune 3.

There are not many details about Dune 3 for now, but Villeneuve has stated in his previous statements that he wants to adapt the next book of the series, “Dune: Messiah”. So, there is a high probability that this movie, which will end the trilogy and Paul Atreides’ story, will be called “Dune: Messiah”.

Dune: Part Two is this year’s most successful movie so far

Dune: Part Tw was a huge success after it was released in early March. This success still continues. So much so that the movie is the highest-grossing movie among the movies released so far in 2024. When we look at Box Office Mojo data, we can see that it earned $631 million worldwide.
